Patty Hiestand

Breasts R Best (BRB) is a private lactation consulting business owned by Patty Hiestand, RN, BSN, IBCLC, a maternal/child home health care nurse with more than 30 years experience helping new moms and babies—and the wonderful partners that support them—get off to a healthy start. Over the years, Patty has worked with new families in both the hospital and clinic settings—and visited hundreds in their homes providing personal, practical support to help them get off on the right foot. 


She has raised and breastfed two kids of her own (one easy; the other—well—she's probably the reason Patty knows so much about this stuff!)

Recognizing that breast milk is the best nutrition for babies, BRB's mission is to support nursing mothers and babies in the way that works best for them. There are no one-size-fits-all formulas. (And, truth be told—once we've tried lots of other things — it may be bottle-fed is the best. Don't be so hard on yourself!) 

Born in the midwest and raised in Indiana and Wisconsin, Patty received her BSN from Marquette University's College of Nursing and, since 1998, has worked as an international board-certified lactation consultant (IBCLC). She is a member of the United States Lactation Consultant Association. After working as a mother/baby nurse and lactation consultant in the Washington, DC-area for more than a decade, she moved near beautiful Bellingham, Washington, the City of Subdued Excitement as locals like to call it, in 2003, where she worked as a lactation consultant and mother/baby nurse and nursing supervisor for OptionCare Home Health/Walgreens (and its subsequent purchasers) until 2014. In 2015, she began Breasts R Best. She lives in Ferndale, Washington, with her BRB-friendly husband, two daughters, a dog and a horse. 

Patty provides professional, in-home breastfeeding help and support to families in most of Whatcom County in Northwest Washington State (including Bellingham, Ferndale, Lynden, Birch Bay, Blaine, Everson, Custer, Deming and Sumas.)  Weekend visits are avaialble.

COVID19 UPDATE: I am seeing clients, but follow and require adherence to COVID19 and other infectious disease protocols, including — when required or requested — the wearing of masks by all household members (other than babies) at all times.
